Who are we?
At Lord Barnard Lodge we pride ourselves on being one of South Shields, Principal Seafarers lodge, providing a high standard of masonic ritual and providing significant support to any members wishing to advance their masonic knowledge by taking up office within the Lodge.
The hard work of our members is evident at our Meetings, where we offer a warm and friendly welcome to all our visitors, which is evident in our plentiful repeat visiting Brethren.
What we do
Whilst Seafaring and Fraternity is a major part of our ‘Lodge Identity’ it comes with the balance of reassuring our members that the commitments of family and work will often be understandably prioritised over masonic duty. We have a history of supporting our members and their families through the most challenging of times and continue to remember the widows of members who have passed to the Grand Lodge Above each Christmas through the sending of a card and gift.

• You have free / voluntary desire to become a Freemason.

• You are of good character (no Court convictions / no findings of dishonest / disgraceful conduct / no disciplinary sanctions through profession or tribunal).
By joining Lord Barnard Lodge, you will immediately benefit from the strong fraternal connections that we share with our Brothers from other lodges in South Shields with whom with share our Masonic Hall. You will also meet Brothers with whom we have established Fraternal relations with from around the Province of Durham.
History and Background
The Lord Barnard Lodge 2935 came into being through a petition for a Warrant of Constitution, which was submitted to the Grand Master. The petition was signed by 45 "Regular Registered Masons" from the following Lodges.
20 members from St. HiIda Lodge 240. 13 from Hadrian Lodge 1970. 8 from the Lodge of Swinburne 2680 and 1 each from Hedworth Lodge 2418. De Loraine Lodge 541. Perseverance Lodge 1643 and St. Bede Lodge 1119.
The first Worshipful Master of Lord Barnard Lodge was W. Bro. George Harland PPJGD, he was a past master of Hadrian Lodge, while his S.W. George Bettie and J.W. James Walker originated from St. Hilda Lodge.
